The Birdmann March 30th

The Birdmann-Abbey-Road- Jess Love and Peter Enright

“A man like no man!”
He’s a little bit of vaudeville, he’s a little bit of circus, he’s a little bit of stand up. The Birdmann approaches the art of comedy from the most obtuse angles.
The Vanguard of Vaudeville delivers fantastic facts and acts – wowing audiences in The Tiny Top, The Famous Spiegel Tent, the international burlesque scene and from the Melbourne Comedy Festival to the Edinburgh Fringe. The Birdmann trained internationally, completed Brisbane’s one and only Rock’n'Roll Circus Training Course and graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the Queensland University of Technology now with distinct and commended solo shows in collection. The Birdmann is now a vaudeville humourist of uncommon exception combining traditional and modern forms to develop a genre of his very own on a tour fantastic.

“charismatic vaudeville stylings”- Metromix New York
“brilliantly ingenious” – Chortle London
“edgy and fastidious”- Sydney Morning Herald
“highly original comedy”- The Age Melbourne

Capital Punishment Feb 9th

After sell-out shows in the past three Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, Capital Punishment is back featuring a selection of Canberra’s best comedians in one hilarious show. Cap Pun hits the Wollongong Comedy Club on Saturday 9 February as part of a larger regional tour. With an array of talented comics performing on the night this show guarantees to have a little bit of something for everyone.
This years’ Capital Punishment line up includes Fat Pizza’s Marie Helou who is fully sik and fully lowered. A mild mannered psychotherapist by day and paranoid psychoid comedian by night, Marie is not afraid to offend or to offer free therapy to those offended by her material.
Festival veteran Greg Kimball is the fourth funniest person in his family of six. One part vague, three parts oblivious, he meanders through life as an adult-sized man-baby. Like adults do to him, he’ll tickle your chin and you’ll giggle.
Newcomer Danny Philippa likes long walks on the beach and once got thrown out of a vegetable growing competition for disorderly conduct. The feet of dancer and the soul of a startled swan, Danny invites you to come into a world that has been described as “sufficient”.
Green Faces national finalist Jez Margosis always delivers whether it’s performing great stand up comedy or choking someone out on the mats. His outlandish stories are as memorable as his name and as mesmerising as his biceps.
But wait… there’s more!
Joining Capital Punishment this year and performing for your pleasure will be Hot Five Comedy competition winner the brilliant Tim Noon, laugh whore Harris Stuckey, the sensational man-boy Simon Bower as well as the dark humour of Hot Five finalist Shahed Sharify.
So make sure you don’t miss out on a seat at the hottest comedy spot in the ‘Gong and get your tickets early to see Capital Punishment !

Fiona O’Loughlin Jan 26th

Fiona-OLoughlin comedian

When Alice Springs mother of five Fiona O’Loughlin started doing stand-up later in life than most comics, her hilarious stories of housewifery and motherhood were an immediate hit. Her first festival show, for example – Fiona And Her Sister (And Some Weird Guy) earned her the Best Newcomer Award at the 2001 Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF). She’s been enjoying sell-out seasons on the festival circuit ever since. In 2006 she took home the Piece of Wood, an MICF award for funniest show as voted for by other comics. In 2007 and 2008 she was nominated for the MICF’s Barry Award for Best Show.

Fiona has taken her story-based stand-up around the world, headlining LA’s world-renowned Improv Comedy Club, playing repeat seasons in Hong Kong and performing at Edinburgh Fringe, Montreal’s invitation-only Just For Laughs and the UK’s oldest, Leicester Comedy Festival.

Fiona’s also been a hit on TV with guest appearances on Sunrise, Good News Week, Spicks and Specks, The World Stands Up and a heap of Comedy Festival Galas.

In more recent years Fiona has overcome a well-documented ‘battle with the bottle’. This, like the other aspects of her life, has become ‘material’ for her stand-up. And Fiona is even funnier sober.
